Stirling, Gateway to the Highlands

Stirling Castle holds a key role in Scotland’s history and holds many famous Scottish artefacts. It is one of Scotland’s most popular tourist attractions and welcomes hundreds of thousands of tourists through its doorway each year. With stunning views of miles of stunning countryside Stirling Castle is a great place to also relax and take in the fresh Scottish surroundings. From the castle you can’t miss another of Stirling’s famous historic tourist attractions – The National Wallace Monument.

The building of the Wallace Monument was completed in 1869 at a cost of £18,000. The tower stands on top of the hill Abbey Craig which gives the 67m building enough height to be able to see as far as Ben Lomond, amongst many other geographical landmarks. As the name suggests it was build as a tribute to Sir William Wallace a 13th century Scottish Hero who became a household name internationally when the Mel Gibson Directed film Braveheart as released in 1995.
